Discord Users and Platform Scale

Discord’s published user counts use different definitions, so daily active users, monthly active users and monthly visitors should not be treated as interchangeable. The company reported more than 100 million monthly active users five years after its 2015 launch, in June 2020, and more than 140 million monthly active users in December 2020. (Your Place to Talk; Discord Transparency Report: July — Dec 2020)

Measure Period Worldwide figure
Monthly active users June 2020 100 million+
Monthly active users December 2020 140 million+
Monthly people coming to Discord 2021 business update 150 million+
Daily active users Q4 2025 90 million+

Discord’s difference between 100 million MAU in June and 140 million in December 2020 is a company-reported 40 million-user increase, calculated from rounded thresholds rather than an independently audited growth rate. The 2021 update described more than 150 million people coming monthly, while the Q4 2025 newsroom figure is daily active users, making direct trend comparisons inappropriate. (An Update on Our Business; Newsroom and Press Center | Discord)

Discord also says more than 90% of users play video games, based on its 2025 survey metric. That is a survey result for the company’s surveyed population, not a census of every Discord user, and the opened newsroom page does not state the sample size. (Newsroom and Press Center | Discord)

Discord Gaming Statistics and Play Time

Gaming remains central to Discord’s published audience profile, but the available measures describe different populations. The 2025 newsroom figures refer to surveyed users and PC players, while the 2024 gaming-hours figure is a combined estimate attributed to Matthew Ball’s State of Video Gaming Report and Discord internal data. (Newsroom and Press Center | Discord; Discord’s Next Chapter)

  • In 2025, more than 90% of Discord users in the company survey played video games.
  • Across all months of 2025, about 40% of Discord PC players started a game within one hour, averaged across months rather than measured as a daily launch rate.
  • In 2024, Discord users spent 1.5 billion hours per month playing across more than 8,000 PC titles.

The 1.5 billion-hour figure is a combined internal/report estimate and does not represent average hours per user. Likewise, “more than 8,000” is a title count associated with that estimate, not a count of all games available on Discord.

Discord’s June 2020 platform-scale figures show both server activity and communication volume. The company reported 6.7 million active servers, 13.5 million weekly active servers, 4 billion conversation minutes per day and 26 billion server-conversation minutes per week worldwide. (Your Place to Talk)

Discord measure Period Company-reported figure
Active servers June 2020 6.7 million
Weekly active servers June 2020 13.5 million
Conversation minutes Daily, June 2020 4 billion
Server-conversation minutes Weekly, June 2020 26 billion

These are company-defined activity measures, and the conversation definition is not further specified in the source. The daily and weekly minute totals should not be treated as exactly seven-times equivalents because the periods may use different aggregation methods.

Discord also said its 2020 product update increased voice and video capacity by 200%. That is an infrastructure-capacity metric, not a measure of user growth, and the company did not define the baseline in the post.

The 2021 business update listed 300 Nitro-exclusive stickers at that time, a historical feature inventory rather than a current entitlement. (Your Place to Talk; An Update on Our Business)

Discord Moderation and Enforcement Data

Transparency reports measure inbound reports and platform actions, not the prevalence of harmful behavior. Discord explicitly distinguishes user reports from confirmed violations, so report totals should be read as reporting activity.

From July through December 2020, Trust & Safety received 355,633 user reports worldwide. Discord said second-half volume was slightly more than 50% higher than the first half, while monthly reports rose from slightly under 30,000 before the COVID-19 pandemic to well over 60,000 at the end of 2020.

Cybercrime reports increased nearly 250% between the two halves. (Discord Transparency Report: July — Dec 2020)

  • In the second half of 2020, CSAM reports represented slightly more than 1% of all reports, and extremist or violent-content reports also represented slightly more than 1%; these are report shares, not prevalence estimates.
  • General harassment was the most frequently reported issue category in the second half of 2020, followed by cybercrime.
  • Discord removed 3,264,655 accounts for spammy behavior from July through December 2020.
  • Discord removed 266,075 non-spam accounts for Community Guidelines violations and 27,410 servers for rule violations in that period.
  • Discord issued 28,170 user warnings and 3,999 server-level warnings worldwide in the second half of 2020.
  • Cybercrime server deletions rose nearly 140% from the first half to the second half of 2020.

The spam-removal total combines Trust & Safety and anti-spam-tool removals, while account deletion is not equivalent to removing unique people. Server deletions can affect members and may reflect repeated or severe violations.

Discord’s first-half 2021 report recorded 437,190 user reports worldwide. In the second half, it recorded 402,659, which Discord described as 34,531 fewer; period-to-period comparisons can be affected by category definitions and reporting systems. (Discord Transparency Report: Jan — June 2021; Discord Transparency Report: July – December 2021)

In October through December 2021, Discord separately recorded 35,027,133 one-click spam reports on 5,472,683 unique accounts. This distinct reporting stream should not be combined with the general user-report totals. (Discord Transparency Report: July – December 2021)

Discord Child-Safety and High-Harm Statistics

Discord’s child-safety figures describe platform reports and enforcement actions under the company’s processes. They are not adjudicated findings or a measure of the total prevalence of child harm.

Measure Period Worldwide figure
Distinct accounts reported to NCMEC Jul–Dec 2020 6,948
Higher-harm grooming or endangerment cases reported to NCMEC Jul–Dec 2020 83
Exploitative-content servers proactively deleted Jul–Dec 2020 1,919
Violent-extremism servers proactively removed Jul–Dec 2020 1,504
QAnon-related servers removed Jul–Dec 2020 334

Discord reported 6,948 distinct accounts to NCMEC in the second half of 2020, including 83 higher-harm grooming or endangerment cases. It proactively deleted 1,919 exploitative-content servers and removed 1,504 violent-extremism servers, with violent-extremism removals nearly 93% higher than in the first half; the company also reported 334 QAnon-related server removals. (Discord Transparency Report: July — Dec 2020)

In the second half of 2021, Child Safety accounted for 1,293,124 disabled accounts, nearly 77% of the 1,687,082 non-spam accounts disabled for policy violations. Discord said it had changed its safety matrix, moving some exploitative-content activity into Child Safety. (Discord Transparency Report: July – December 2021)

Discord reported 15,126 accounts to NCMEC in the second half of 2021, including 220 higher-harm grooming or endangerment reports. These are platform referrals under Discord’s process, not adjudicated findings. (Discord Transparency Report: July – December 2021)

Appeals and legal-process figures describe operational workloads, not unique people or cases in every instance. In the second half of 2020, Discord received 82,166 non-spam appeals and reversed 3,937 non-spam deletion decisions, reporting an approximately 1.5% unban rate among appeals; it also granted 3,061 spam appeals. (Discord Transparency Report: July — Dec 2020)

  • Discord received 3,662 pieces of legal process during calendar year 2020, including US and MLAT requests; these are requests, not necessarily unique users or cases.
  • Discord announced a new $100 million funding round in 2020; funding is not revenue. (Your Place to Talk)
  • Discord received 175,393 non-spam appeals in the second half of 2021 and reinstated 5,661 accounts, equal to 0.34% of non-spam disables under the company’s stated denominator.
  • Discord received 2,852 legal-process requests in the second half of 2021 and found 2,559 legally valid and specific enough to identify a user.

The 2021 reinstatement percentage uses disabled accounts as its denominator, while appeals are a separate count. Legal-process validity and specificity are Discord’s reported classifications, and neither request counts nor account actions should be interpreted as counts of unique individuals.
