Steam is a large, continuously changing PC gaming platform, and its available statistics describe both live activity and the systems used by participating players. The figures below separate October 2, 2026 chart snapshots from Valve’s optional monthly hardware survey, whose percentages describe survey participants and relevant subgroups rather than every Steam account.
Key Steam Statistics
The most useful headline figures are:

Steam’s Online Scale and Most-Played Games
Steam Charts recorded 37,848,996 players online at the captured access time on October 2, 2026. The same official chart view displayed a peak online count of 25,470,677, but the captured page did not identify the date of that peak, and live counts change continuously. Steam Charts
The chart is therefore best read as a time-stamped observation, not as a monthly-active-user figure, unique-user count or average. It also provides a useful snapshot of how activity is distributed among the most-played titles.
| Rank context | Title | Current players | Peak today |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Counter-Strike 2 | 684,299 | 1,177,785 |
| 2 | Dota 2 | 521,368 | 811,390 |
| 3 | PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS | 352,233 | 614,945 |
| 4 | Bongo Cat | 162,580 | 177,934 |
| 5 | Apex Legends | 99,616 | 201,132 |
These are live chart observations captured October 2, 2026, rather than daily or monthly averages. The top-five ranking included Bongo Cat alongside games, while Steam’s chart can include software as well as games. Most Played
Player-Count Data Across Leading Steam Games
Steam’s Most Played table gives both the current count and the peak recorded that day. The following additional entries show the breadth of the live chart beyond its first five positions.
- Rust recorded 89,128 current players and a 150,419 daily peak on October 2, 2026.
- Delta Force recorded 85,687 current players and a 124,367 daily peak on October 2, 2026.
- Wallpaper Engine recorded 88,423 current players and a 107,275 daily peak on October 2, 2026; the chart includes software alongside games.
- Team Fortress 2 recorded 72,418 current players and an 80,604 daily peak on October 2, 2026.
- Valheim recorded 67,232 current players and a 170,919 daily peak on October 2, 2026.
- Stardew Valley recorded 51,948 current players and a 67,867 daily peak on October 2, 2026.
- Warframe recorded 51,351 current players and a 71,340 daily peak on October 2, 2026.
- Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced recorded 46,094 current players and a 62,068 daily peak on October 2, 2026.
- Palworld recorded 39,437 current players and a 54,536 daily peak on October 2, 2026.
The chart’s “current players” and “peak today” fields answer different questions: one is a snapshot at access time, while the other is the highest observed count during that day’s chart period. Neither should be treated as a stable estimate of a game’s recurring audience. Most Played
Steam Hardware Statistics: Operating Systems, Memory and Processors
Valve’s September 2026 Hardware & Software Survey describes participating systems, not the entire Steam population. Participation is optional and anonymous, so the percentages below are survey shares within the stated denominator. Steam Hardware & Software Survey: September 2026
| Windows survey measure | Share | Period and population |
|---|---|---|
| Windows 11 64-bit | 75.08% | September 2026, Windows systems |
| Windows 10 64-bit | 24.85% | September 2026, Windows systems |
| 32 GB RAM | 43.28% | September 2026, Windows systems |
| 16 GB RAM | 37.60% | September 2026, Windows systems |
| 8 GB RAM | 6.03% | September 2026, Windows systems |
The RAM figures are tiers, not an average amount of memory. Processor vendors were nearly divided between Intel at 54.47% and AMD at 45.52% of Windows survey systems, while six physical CPUs was the most common processor-count category at 28.23%.
Among vendor-specific speed bands, the 2.3–2.69 GHz Intel band represented 21.13% of Intel-based Windows systems, and the 3.7 GHz-and-above AMD band represented 22.27% of AMD-based Windows systems. These are grouped nominal clock-speed categories, not direct measures of gaming performance.
Steam GPU, Display and Graphics Data
The September 2026 survey listed the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 as the leading individual video-card model at 3.92% of Windows survey systems, followed by the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 at 3.04%. Individual model shares are survey observations and do not represent all Steam PCs. Steam Hardware & Software Survey: September 2026
Graphics and display categories provide a more practical picture of common PC configurations:
- 8 GB of video memory accounted for 34.03% of Windows survey systems in September 2026.
- 1920×1080 accounted for 52.12% of primary displays in September 2026, although primary-display resolution is not necessarily in-game rendering resolution.
- 3840×1080 accounted for 22.86% of multi-monitor Windows desktop systems in September 2026.
Valve’s August 2026 API-category views use different subgroup denominators. The RTX 3060 accounted for 7.52% of Vulkan systems and 3.92% of DirectX 12 systems, while Intel HD Graphics 4000 was listed at 27.67% of DirectX 11 GPUs.
The DirectX 11 result is a legacy compatibility grouping and should not be read as the share of all Steam GPUs. Similarly, Vulkan and DirectX 12 percentages describe their respective survey subsets, not the entire Windows population. Steam Hardware & Software Survey: September 2026
Steam Storage, Language and System-Configuration Statistics
The August 2026 survey reported English as the Windows client language for 35.69% of Windows survey systems. This is a client-language share, not a measure of user nationality or home country. Steam Hardware & Software Survey: September 2026
Storage results require especially careful interpretation because free space and total capacity are different measures.
| Storage measure | Share | Definition |
|---|---|---|
| 100–249 GB free space | 23.96% | Windows systems, August 2026 |
| More than 1 TB total drive space | 51.77% | Windows systems, August 2026 |
| 750–999 GB total drive space | 24.67% | Windows systems, August 2026 |
| 500–749 GB total drive space | 2.42% | Windows systems, August 2026 |
Drive type was marked Undetermined for 94.07% of Windows systems in August 2026. “Undetermined” is a reporting category, not evidence that those systems lacked storage data.
The survey also reported the LAHF/SAHF processor feature as present on 100% of systems in its August 2026 Other Settings category. That is a feature-reporting result, not a performance score or a measure of processor speed. Steam Hardware & Software Survey: September 2026
Steam VR, Linux, Mac and Platform Diversity
VR figures apply only to the Steam Hardware & Software Survey’s VR-headset subset. In August 2026, Oculus Quest 2 represented 26.97%, Meta Quest 3 represented 26.01%, Meta Quest 3S represented 11.50%, and Valve Index HMD represented 11.07% of surveyed VR headsets. Steam Hardware & Software Survey: September 2026
The operating-system figures likewise describe survey systems rather than all PC gamers or all Steam accounts. In the August 2026 combined view, Windows accounted for 93.95%, combined Linux for 3.90%, and macOS for 2.14%.
In the September 2026 combined operating-system view, SteamOS Holo represented 0.82% and Linux Mint 22.3 represented 0.33%. SteamOS Holo’s percentage is survey-based and should not be interpreted as a Steam Deck shipment count or installed-base estimate.
These platform figures are useful for understanding the composition of participating systems, but their periods differ: the overall Windows, Linux and macOS shares cited here are from August 2026, while the SteamOS Holo and Linux Mint entries are from September 2026.
